A girl on a road trip in the middle of a pandemic.

I left my home on Martha’s Vineyard January 29, 2020, my husband Gavin’s 36th birthday. We were bound for 8 weeks of adventure, starting with a trip to Miami for the Super Bowl followed by several weeks of road tripping from Massachusetts along the north to Colorado and back home along the south.

We arrived in Atlanta, Georgia on March 9, 2020 and the Coronavirus epidemic quickly escalated from that day on. Before that it was all fun and games on our road trip, with occasional mentions of the virus in the news.

As I write this, only a week later it is a completely different story, and one we cannot escape. I begin this blog from Atlanta, a city where I once lived and home to several friends and close family. We are hunkering down here as the virus has proceeded to wreak havoc on the world and is just ramping up in the States.

I wanted to create a dedicated place to document my thoughts and share my experience, and that of others. Ironically I had originally planned on launching a travel blog this week to recap my adventures, but today’s realities have led me to this. I hope to be able to look back on these surreal times and appreciate how scared, brave, vulnerable, understanding, and adaptable we all were. These are my Corona Diaries.
